Staying Active at Disney : Megan Biller

It’s true. I’m one of those crazy people that thinks about working out while on vacation.

No, not the “I have to work out 3 hours a day otherwise I’ll bloat into a balloon” people – just the “it would be nice to get a little workout in every other day or so” kind of people.

Thankfully, Disney has some great options! Here are just a few ways to stay active while vacationing in Walt Disney World.

Walk

Going from attraction to attraction in a theme park means a LOT of walking! Not to mention the fact that some of the theme parks (specifically Epcot) are quite large! You can walk at least 10 miles a day!

Fitness Center

All of the deluxe resorts and Coronado Springs have a fitness facility at the resort or nearby. These include Cybex cardio and weight machines, along with free weights and mats. The fitness centers are open 24 hours a day – so you can head there at any time for a quick workout!

Running Trails

Yes, there are running paths at Disney! The main ones are along the Boardwalk/Beach Club and between the Grand Floridian and Polynesian. However, there are many more! Just running around your resort will get you the quick workout you need! (Check out running maps here.)

Swimming

Another way to get in a workout is heading to your resort pool for a swim! I recommend going to the quiet pools as they have less kids, meaning less dodging during your swim. Also, if you go during the early morning or late at night, you most likely won’t have many other people to contend with.

runDisney Events

Nothing like running a race to get the endorphins going! You can always plan your vacation around a runDisney event – which is a great way to stay active! They occur in January, February, May, September and November – so you have plenty to choose from!

So there are just a few ways to stay active while vacationing at Disney! Most of these can be done at any vacation location – all you need to do is a little research beforehand!
